Description

Written in January 1984, I was influenced by Culture Club, Boy George's was the voice singing in my head as I wrote it. As I recorded it, earlier this year, I thought it had more of a 70s singer-songwriter feel, a bit Godspell, a bit Carole King-ish (flattering myself, there, I reckon). Another youthful, naive sentiment contained in the optimistic lyrics that years of harsh cynicism have almost (but not quite yet) eroded. BTW the paper heart design in the graphic is made by Bettyrose Creations.

North, South, East and West
Stand with all their flags unfurled
Nation against nation
When we only have one world
And when we pull together
We're always blown apart
Could there ever be a change of heart?
There's no place for forgiveness
There's no room for compromise
When brother against brother
Must compete to win the prize
And when our bonds are broken
They're replaced by stronger chains
Could a change of heart be all in vain?
Say goodbye to strength through mistrust
To falsehood and to lies
Don't fall for those who say that you must
When they never tell you why
Choose friendship over violence
Love over war
But don't sit there in silence
If you can change your heart
You can change much more
and I know this moment
Is the time and place to start
Be reconciled, be as a child
And change, change your heart
