When I look back on what I did
I sold my soul for the highest bid
I gave my heart to a higher law
I played my part in a Holy War
Once a child looked through these eyes
And saw the world in all of its beauty
What kind of man controls these hands
What kind of god
What kind of destiny
I took my stand on sacred ground
But all the time I was chained and bound
I believed that I was free
The Holy War did all that to me
Once a mother raised her son
With tenderness and pride she watched him grow
I wonder where the love has gone
I wonder if she’ll ever really know
When I look back on what I’ve done
It’s down the barrel of a loaded gun
Whatever I was fighting for
There’s no such thing as a Holy War
I don’t believe it anymore
I’ll never fight another Holy War
