Description

Written in 1987, whilst sitting one evening on a beach in southern Spain, thinking to myself "That's Africa just across that water," it was pretty much an all in one go write. I keep promising to finish a musical about Nelson Mandela (called Madiba, I've got about four songs that would fit in and this is one of them). Either that, or maybe change the lyrics to something a bit lighter ( it's a floaty melody, with heavy lyrics, not sure if they match that well). Have a listen and feel free to share and give me any feedback whatsoever.

I feel the wind from the desert blowing sand into my hair
From the land across the sea
And it’s blown here forver scattering seeds across the earth
And your rain falss down on me

The shadow of Africa falls on a world so sad and unforgiving
So near and so far the land of our birth from which we all were driven

there’s a light on the horizon that dances through the night
as the sea caresses the shore
It’s a fire lit for freedom and its beacon’s burning bright
Through a darkness that would last forevermore

The shadow of Africa spreads across the sky a silhouette in the moonlight
Calling from afar listen to its cry take heed of me tonight

there’s such a long long way to go
Down a dark and dangerous road
But peace will come when justice is done
This I know

And the shadow of Africa falls on us all with the heritage we were given
Enticing from afar still I here it call come back to me my children
