Christine Caine has a saying, “Sometimes you are in a dark place and think you have been buried, when actually, you have been planted!” Too often our perspective becomes darkened with discouragement. We question God, doubt our faith, and wonder if we can go on. We feel like giving up. We feel powerless.
Just like the early believers in Acts, we grow weary. We have doubt. We get distracted. We become discouraged. All of us need that someone who builds support, hope and strength back into our life. All of us need the reminder that light is coming, and blooms and fruitfulness are on its way!
This weekend, we continued our look at followers of Jesus in the New Testament and met Barnabus. His name actually means, Son of Encouragement! This man had the unique ability to come alongside others and build strength back into their perspective. Barnabus was able to see the small traces of grace that maybe others didn’t see or recognize. He knew the secret sauce that built strength for believers to make it for the long haul. He made it “his job” to encourage those around him, to remain in Jesus.
Some of you are a Barnabus, and if you own this mission, you can strengthen the lives of those around you. Some of you need a Barnabus, and if you find one, you can stand back up and believe God and continue to walk with confidence.
