In this adventure of following the words and ways of Jesus, we are like artists, painting on the blank canvas of our lives, letting Jesus show us how to create something beautiful, which then reflects our love-drenched partnership to the people around us. We call it The Art of Following Jesus. As his disciples, or followers, learners, or apprentices, we are learning to follow his words and ways, putting them into practice with one another.
We are focusing on Jesus’ big value of Enjoy, which means enjoying one another. One of Jesus’ most consistent priorities is that those who follow him would be dispensers of grace. I’ve been struggling with what appears to be the grace-starved condition of our current cultural moment. Why is that? Do you have ideas? One of my conclusions, among many, is that before grace can flow out of us, it first has to flow into us. In my personal reflections, I am astounded by how little grace I give myself. People who understand the relationship between our human emotions and spiritual growth tell me that if we can’t receive grace, we often can silently, or loudly become brittle, overly-critical, and judgmental.
Jesus wants to shower our lives with the tasty seasoning of Grace. Let’s get honest about this practice as we Enjoy one another this weekend.
