When was the last time you were in a street fight? I’m not talking about a family argument, or social media beef, but a full-on physical altercation? There’s an old military-strategy saying: “No plan survives first contact with the enemy.” I like Mike Tyson’s version better: “Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.” What you or I think we are or would do in a fight is often very different than what we actually end up doing. There’s something about being in a physically-strained, dangerous situation that is revealing. Let's sit ringside and behold Jesus in a street fight. What does he fall back on in crisis? What are his instincts? What emerges from the Messiah when under attack? And what can we learn about ourselves from watching the master in a high-stakes battle? Grab your gloves and gi and let’s learn from a combat master!
