Description

This weekend we looked at Martha, a friend of Jesus. We picked up the story and Martha’s sister Mary is sitting at the feet of Jesus listening intently, caught up in this rare opportunity to have Jesus all too herself. Martha was busy preparing lunch. It’s recorded in Luke 10:38-42. She was bothered that Mary was not helping her. Jesus saw this and addressed Martha’s distracted heart. “One thing is necessary Martha, and Mary has chosen the good thing.” In other words, “Look at your sister Martha and learn from her. She's got it right.” Martha often gets thrown under the bus, doesn’t she? She’s chosen the wrong thing, or at least it appears that way. Unless Jesus isn’t saying it’s a choose "this or that“ kind of deal, but a learn the secret to the "both and". Stillness and busyness are not arch enemies but sisters. Join us to learn about Martha and her authentic, all too common struggle with juggling busyness and stillness in a slow paced world. Jump ahead 2000 years and add the challenge of living in a fast paced world and you have the potential for disaster unless we learn the secret of the “both and”.
