If someone were to ask you, why did Jesus come to earth, what would you say? To save the world from their sins? To guide us as a moral teacher? To turn things around on earth? We’ve established that Jesus came to be king and bring God’s kingdom to earth through his followers, both Jewish converts and Gentiles. I want to look at Matthew 1, John 1:14 and John 3:16 and answer this question specifically. What kind of king? A saving king and a present king. We’ll see that in his names. A name says a lot about someone. In the Old Testament, names indicated not only identity, but also purpose. The purpose of Jesus' arrival as we celebrate Him this Christmas is two-fold. He is the savior of the world and He brings God’s presence to earth. Why are these important to us? Because the two problems in the world today are solved in Jesus. We are lost and we are alone. We need saving and we need comfort.
I will also remind you as we approach year end, to please be considering a year end gift to the River Church of the South Bay. We hope to end well this year and make up for our losses last year and give our staff a deserved and modest cost of living adjustment for their salaries and meet our goals in giving worldwide through all our ministry affiliations and missionaries. We have all information on how to give below. We are set up to receive all kinds of gifts to the River. Please call or email the office if you have any questions.
