For years, the Lord’s supper was a very deep and spiritual experience for me. I remember sitting quietly contemplating Jesus' death often internally moved wondering what it must have been like for Jesus to be abandoned by his friends, hated by others, yet filled with compassion and love. In years since, I feel I’ve needed to re-vist this holy moment with new vigor, searching for new meaning and significance. Jesus said as often as you do this remember me. As often, remember me. We are to do this regularly. Jesus begins Holy Week, often referred to as the Passion Week with a Passover meal with his disciples declaring himself the main meal. Lamb was traditionally served but at this meal, Jesus will be the unblemished lamb. Jesus is to be remembered but also consumed in some sense. Jesus told his disciples earlier to eat his flesh and drink his blood. This is either a very odd ritual or one of the most deeply significant ones in the Christian faith. In Matthew 26:20-26 we will explore its meaning and significance for new insight into how it prepares us for cross shaped life.
