Romans 7 reveals the famous internal dialogue Paul has in his mind about failing to keep the law. I do what I don’t want to do. I actually hate what I do since it is contrary to what I know I want to do. If that does not describe the most common area of disappointment for most Christ followers. I do what I don’t want to do. It sounds like something within him is working against his true desires as a Christ follower. Why do I do the opposite of what I want to do? I do want to please God. I do want to be loving. My kids asked if I could come over and help hang drapes in their new house. OK, I want to do that, but I want to sit and gel in front of the TV and have me time. Let’s get more vulnerable. I want to give the credit to others but I desperately need to be valued and praised. I want to yield the right of way but I have to be somewhere. You get the idea. What is causing this and what is the solution is the focus of Romans 7.
