Today we are going to talk about where to go as a digital nomad. I have been travelling the world for the past six years and I go to a new country every 2 – 3 months. Right now I am in Riga and in the next six months I am going to go to 2 or 3 more countries.
So, I keep travelling from country to country all the time. So far I have been to 35+ countries and I have been in almost all continents basically. Here are my top locations that I can advise you to go based on what you really need.
There are a few factors to consider when you are choosing where to go exactly. There is money, there is, if you want, night life, other source of ways of meeting people. Here are a few places that fit what I want. I want parties and I want to go to places where it is easy to reach entrepreneurs.
For example, I do not like to stay in LA for too long because you need to go everywhere by car. So, in Riga you do not waste any time going anywhere, everything is in the center. That is what I need.
Another city that I like is Barcelona. Barcelona is a very super magical place, actually it is the second city that I went to when starting to travel. I stuck around, it was really awesome, because I met a bunch of entrepreneurs, there were amazing parties everywhere, very nice food. It is a little bit unsafe sometimes, people try to rob you, but they are not aggressive, so Barcelona is a very good place.
Another good place, In Spain actually, is Valencia. In Valencia it is cleaner, there is less crime, there are a lot of tourists, if you want to talk tourists, as well as a lot of locals who speak Spanish. There is also very good food.
Another place that I really like is Miami South beach. The thing about Miami South beach is that it`s better than most other places in most ways apart from one single factor and that is money. Miami South beach is the most expensive place I have ever been. A room, a single room there costs per month $1750. So, it is kind of expensive to be here. I do not recommend to be there if you are on a budget.
If you do want to go to places that are cheaper and also near Miami South beach, I recommend Cancun and Playa Del Carmen I was in Playa Del Carmen in 2012, it is very beautiful, there are a lot of tourists, basically from USA and there is a very good internet all around the city.
Next location I recommend is Taipei in Taiwan. The reason I recommend Taipei is because it has a lot of these factors that I have been mentioning before. So, it has really good internet, it is really cheap actually, there is a dating life, and it is also very safe.
Another city, the one that I just came from, is Split, Croatia. It is definitely on a pricy side, so it is not if you are just starting out, you do need $2000 / $3000 per month to be very comfortable there. If you stay out of the tourist season, I don`t know if it is still going to be good, but probably it is going to be a lot cheaper. There is very nice food and the locals are very friendly. They speak English and are a little bit shy.
Another good thing about Croatia is that the nature is amazing, it is probably one of my favorite destinations for nature, because you are on a beach there and if you take a boat trip, you basically go to any number of islands, there is amazing food everywhere, good internet, even 4G while on a boat.
A place that everyone is raving about is Budapest. I am not a huge fan, it is kind of a landlocked place, it is cheap, there are good parties there, but locals do not speak English. I am not a huge fan, there are a lot of entrepreneurs, though.
