Description

In this episode, TPV editor Jeffrey Kaplan interviews the journal’s founding editor David C. Rapoport. A prominent scholar of political violence, Rapoport argues that political concerns and technological development produced the new iterations of terrorism in the form of "waves". In his new book, out on 31 May 2022, he discusses the possibility of a fifth wave beginning to form. Also in the episode, Kaplan and Rapoport look back on their careers as close colleagues in the field and how the study of terrorism itself has changed during this time.

Terrorism and Political Violence is a podcast series produced by the Journal of Terrorism and Political Violence (TPV) in collaboration with Utrecht University. This podcast is comprised of two types of episodes. In Issues up close, editors of the TPV journal will discuss a range of subjects from prominent issues covered by the journal such as the history of terrorism, its causes and consequences, questions concerning political violence and major global trends and threats. In our Book Talks episodes, editors will host conversations with experts from across the field to discuss their current work. More information about this series, and other episodes, can be found on www.uu.nl/tpv. With special thanks to Pieter Veen for the soundtrack.
