The Russian invasion of Ukraine has brought together leaders and communities from across the globe to take unprecedented action. With some labelling the invasion as the “beginning of World War III,” the attack poses a challenge to the stability of the international structure and with it, the lives of Ukrainian residents.
In this episode, Dr. Rachel Gillett speaks to Dr. Karel Berkhoff, Olha Klymenko, Dr. Gertjan Plets, and John Vsetecka to discuss the history of Ukraine’s independence, the motivation for Putin’s invasion, and the media coverage of the invasion, including issues of race and national identity.
Audio Note: We unfortunately had sound difficulties for Olha’s audio, who was kindly joining us from Kyiv. We apologise for the reduction in sound quality.
