Every year, thousands of refugees seek asylum in The Netherlands as they are forced to flee their own country. These experiences are difficult, emotional, personal, and unique to the individual. This episode series aims to shed light on the personal stories of relocating and settling into the Netherlands, as told by individuals from Utrecht’s Incluusion program.
In this episode Malina Yallanki speaks with Idris who has relocated to the Netherlands. They discuss his experience of relocating, the challenges faced along his journey, and the use of the term ‘refugee.’ We invite you to listen and learn.
Seeking asylum is just one step in the process in the challenging and often traumatic relocation process. In this powerful set of personal interviews, we learn about the many other hurdles in that process. We hear directly from newcomers about their experiences of despair, resilience, and their suggestions for a better process.
This series takes an intimate look at the experience of seeking asylum in the Netherlands. We offer it in hopes that we can strengthen and build communities of support as our fellow residents seek inclusion and success.
