Description

This week, we hear Mia Lobel '97 in conversation with Marc Mowrey '83. He shares the story of his somewhat nontraditional path into Wesleyan.

"After trying so hard to get in, I just took off."

Marc Mowrey, co-author of Not in Our Backyard, sits in the middle of three generations of Wesleyan students. His father (Olin scholar Ed Mowrey) attended for two years, dropped out, and never came back. Marc went to Wesleyan for one semester, dropped out, returned years later, and graduated without distinction. Marc’s son (Tennessee Mowrey '14) matriculated four years in a row, never dropped out, and graduated with distinction. Evolution!

These days, Marc writes and records music (his latest effort, “Bang Your Head Slowly”, is available from the usual sources), hosts a monthly storytelling event in Berkeley, CA called “That Really Happened??”, adores his wife Susie Davis, and helps the US EPA save the planet.

The Wesleyan Storytelling Project is produced by Mia Lobel ’97 and production intern Tess Altman ’17.
