Description

In a conversation with Mia Lobel ’97, Ron Nowek ’58 and Bob Furber ’58 recall their exuberant days at Wes, including the great water fight of 1956.

Ron: “…Yeah we were pretty bad, actually. Remember when we had the fireworks—”
Bob: “I remember the catapults. Remember the catapults?”

At Wesleyan, Ron majored in Mathematics, and Bob in Physics and Astronomy. Both were members of the John Wesley Club, mentioned in the water fight story. Ron went on to study aerospace engineering, and Bob, physics, at University of Southern California. Bob received a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in nuclear theory. Bob recently published an article titled “Kepler accuracy model for co-periodic satellite separation extrema” in the Springer-Verlag journal “Celestial Mechanics and Dynamical Astronomy.” Ron retired from Boeing in 2000, and Bob from Hughes Aircraft the same year.
