First, they discuss Yorgos Lanthimos’ “The Favourite,” (without spoilers from beginning-32:42 and with spoilers from 33:42-55:03) and how it manages to work humor and themes that are relevant today into a costume drama set in the early 18th century. Then, they break down Alfonso Cuaron’s passion project, “Roma,” (55:04-end, spoilers throughout) which uses extremely detailed visual storytelling to to show the journey of a young maid/nanny working for an upper middle class Mexican family in the early 1970s.
