The Process of Transformation
1. Crisis
* Your main struggle is with God.
“This left Jacob all alone in the camp, and a man came and wrestled with him until the dawn began to break. When the man saw that he would not win the match, he touched Jacob’s hip and wrenched it out of its socket.” Genesis 32:24-25 (NLT)
2. Perseverance
“Then the man said, “Let me go, for the dawn is breaking!” But Jacob said, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.” Genesis 32:26 (NLT)
* When we commit to keep going in a crisis, it becomes possible to grow.
“So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.” Galatians 6:9 (NLT)
3. Confession
“The man asked him, "What is your name?" "Jacob," he answered.” Genesis 32:27
* I will never be able to change until I honestly admit my sin.
* I am
4. Transformation
“Then the man said, "Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with men and have overcome." Jacob said, "Please tell me your name." But he replied, "Why do you ask my name?" Then he blessed him there. So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, "It is because I saw God face to face, and yet my life was spared."” Genesis 32:28-30
a) God gives him a new identity
b) God gives him His blessing
c) God gives him a reminder of the experience
“The sun was rising as Jacob left Peniel, and he was limping because of the injury to his hip.” Genesis 32:31
