FAKE NEWS
Fake News: I will earn my way to heaven by my good deeds.
“When you did amazing wonders we didn’t expect, you came down, and mountains shuddered in your presence! These amazing things had never been heard of before; you did things never dreamed of! No one perceived your greatness. No eye has ever seen a God like you, who intervenes for those who wait and long for you! We have all become contaminated with sin, and you see our self-righteousness as nothing better than a menstrual rag. We are all like fallen leaves, and our sins sweep us away like the wind.” Isaiah 64:3-4,6
“You see, all have sinned, and all their futile attempts to reach God in His glory fail.”
Romans 3:23
Good News (Gospel truth): Eternal Life is a person.
“Those who believe in the Son of God have the living testimony in their hearts. Those who don’t believe have made God out to be a liar by not believing the testimony God has confirmed about his Son. This is the true testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life has its source in his Son. Whoever has the Son has eternal life; whoever does not have the Son does not possess eternal life. I’ve written this letter to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you will be assured and know without a doubt that you have eternal life.” 1 John 5:20-13
Fake News: I found God.
“God looks down from the heavens on the children of men, to see if anyone understands, who seeks after God. All have turned aside— together they have become corrupt. There is no one who does good— no, not even one!” Psalm 53:2-3
Good News (Gospel Truth): God found me.
“No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day.” John 6:44
“But there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who it was that would betray Him. And He was saying, “For this reason I have said to you, that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted him from the Father.” As a result of this many of His disciples withdrew and were not walking with Him anymore. So Jesus said to the twelve, “You do not want to go away also, do you?” Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life. We have believed and have come to know that You are the Holy One of God.” John 6:64-69
“Wouldn’t every single one of you, if you have 100 sheep and lose one, leave the 99 in their grazing lands and go out searching for the lost sheep until you find it? When you find the lost sheep, wouldn’t you hoist it up on your shoulders, feeling wonderful? And when you go home, wouldn’t you call together your friends and neighbors? Wouldn’t you say, “Come over and celebrate with me, because I’ve found my lost sheep”? This is how it is in heaven.” Luke 15:3-7a
