Title: My New Year’s Prayer
But you, man of God, flee from these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance and gentleness.
1 Timothy 6:11 NASB
If anyone advocates a different doctrine and does not agree with sound words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and with the doctrine conforming to godliness, he is conceited and understands nothing... out of which arise... men deprived of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. But godliness actually is a means of great gain when accompanied by contentment. 1 Timothy 6:3-6
I Contentment
* Why is our contentment so important to God?
Because the opposite of contentment is to ______________.
Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature... and greed, which is idolatry. Colossians 3:5
John 10:10
* What should we be content with?
1. The ________________ where we are.
All who are under the yoke as slaves are to regard their own masters as worthy of all honor so that the name of God and our doctrine will not be spoken against. 1 Timothy 6:1
2. The __________________ we have.
“...who suppose that godliness is a means of gain.” v. 5c
For we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it either. If we have food and covering, with these we shall be content. But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. 1 Timothy 6:7-10 NASB
II Discontentment
“…deprived of the truth.” v. 5
* We most pursue above all a ______________________ with Christ.
Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ. Ephesians 4:15
* We must be discontent with our ____________________________.
