Description

On this episode I sit with my good friend Valerie Jackson and we discuss her internal and external battles of growing up light skin in Portland, OR. She discusses she had to reassess her role in the natural hair movement. Valerie told stories of having to prove her blackness, dealing with racism in high school, and getting a taste of not being given the light skin privilege that she was accustomed. The most interesting portion of her story is about the time she was a white girl for a day, and what a glorious day it was! Listen and enjoy!!
