When I released my song "Yellow and Grey" in 2023, little did I know that it would become such a popular song with music fans, and with fans of the Merseyrail Class 507 and 508 electric trains that the song is about.
I wrote the song as not only a tribute to those trains, but as a nod to the all-time classic train song "Trans Europa Express" by Kraftwerk. It's an iconic song about an iconic train, which sounds far better being listened to in the original German language version. So in true fan mode, I decided to record a version of "Yellow and Grey" with German lyrics, despite not being able to speak German myself!
Not entirely satisfied with this version, I contacted two friends whose music is inspired by Kraftwerk, and one of whom now lives in Germany, and asked them to come up with a new version of "Yellow and Grey" which sounded like a proper tribute to Kraftwerk and Trans Europa Express. The result is Gelb und Grauzone which you hear today. //
