With The High Djinn I was aiming for a 'folky singer-songwriter meets blues man gone to Mali' vibe. I wanted it roots and I wanted it new; not sounding like anyone else I'd heard before, so what I did was go on a western guitar music diet and experiment with traditional stringed instruments, percussion and drums. After laying down the tracks I invited my bud Abel Beja; guitarist extraordinaire to layer some amazing traditional guitar melodies and bring the tracks to a whole other level. After all, although I carry the shape-shifter gene, the party is always better with more than one present in the room.
