Description

Neil Harkins is our next guest on The Yay. Neil is a budding playwright that will be contributing to the Baldwin Project and, like me, attended the Berkeley Rep playwrighting class, taught by Gary Graves. This podcast is very heavy on the upcoming Baldwin Centennial Project, which all three of us are working on. We talk about how Baldwin is still a crucial voice for today’s generation – his struggles with blackness, his identity as a gay man, and his fight to be individual in his own way and still shine a light to all diversity, so we can all be equal. This project was birthed from the Richard Wright Centennial Project, which inspired Neil to get into theatre and playwrighting, and he talks of his experience with that project and what’s he’s doing now.
