We had April Deustchle on two years ago (Episode 175), where we talked about her life, her travels and what brought her to the bay area. An article came out in the SF Chronicle on October 28th that dealt with actors being mistreated at the Altarena. She comes back on to tell her side of the story and to engage in a bigger conversation about how the dialogue between actors and directors should be, and how beautiful and engaging theatre can be created while respecting the actors that deliver beautiful performances.

For full disclosure, I (Reg Clay) reached out to Artistic Director Katina Letheule, to give her an opportunity to speak out and to give her version of what’s been going on, and she declined. I (Reg Clay) worked with Katina, who directed me doing It’s Only A Play, and didn’t have any issues with the production. This by no means diminishes the accusations made by the actors that did in fact have issues with the theatre.
