Our next guest is Ely Sonny Orquiza, who was last on in January 2020 (Episode 139) – since then, he’s become Magic Theatre’s Director of Education, created the Chikahan Company, created the Living Document, placing a spotlight to companies that has issues with diversity in casting and storytelling. To say that Ely has made an impact on Bay Area theatre is an understatement – he’s made a name for himself as a director, an actor and a queer filipino creative. Joining us is the incredible Jeannie Barroga, established filipina playwright, whose works have been archived at Stanford University. And she’s only the second person we’ve had on the Yay who has her own Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeannie_Barroga
You can find more information on Ely on his personal website: https://www.elysonnyorquiza.org
We also want to thank Charles Blades Barbershop for sponsoring The Yay! Charles Blades Barbershop is located at 180 Second Street in downtown Oakland. It’s a very cool, relaxing place where you can get your cuts and they’ll even serve you a complimentary drink. Charles is also selling men’s hair products on his website https://cbbgroominingproducts.myshopify.com
