Description

The great commission is the normal job of a disciple, to raise up more disciples. Discipleship is simply teaching others by example through close relationship. This is what Jesus modelled for us with His disciples.

00 Introduction
37 Jesus’s last command to his followers (the great commission) was to go and make disciples… Baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you."
50 ”Christ did not come to make Christians; He came to make disciples. Discipleship is not one of the church’s various ministries. It is not something that the paid staff do. Discipleship is who we – as the church – are at our very core…” -JD Greear
31 Mark 8:34-38
46 1. What is a disciple?
30 They would live with the rabbi and learn to imitate him completely.
11 There was obviously a clear focus and understanding on the importance of the scriptures. This was the foundation…
36 Discipleship is simply teaching others by example through close relationship.
20 That’s you today, you don’t need to become anything special before you are called by God to follow Him. Even in your brokenness, without understanding, but you hear the gospel of Jesus, you open your heart to the call of Jesus.
34 2. How do I become a disciple?
48 Mark 8:34
58 The cross was a widely recognized INSTRUMENT OF EXECUTION! Thousands upon thousands were put to death by the Romans in this way…
43 Before we begin, have you counted the cost of what it means to truly follow me?
06 Jesus was confronting an issue that existed then and still does now…
00 You MUST turn from your own way of living, everything you’ve known as life itself, you have to die… Then, and only then, you can FOLLOW ME…
45 The word “follow” is (akoloutheo) “to take the same road as another does.”
52 Jesus wants you to walk with Him…
41 They believed He was the truth, the way, and the life. The only way to the Father. The only way to eternal life.
50 But look what Jesus is saying they gain…
00 Mark 8:35-37
09  As long as we choose to be in charge, we stiff arm the presence of God in our lives. We are against God, we push away his presence in our lives.
18 You cannot choose to ONLY enjoy Him as Saviour… And neglect Him as Master…  The two are inseparable… He requires you to allow Him to be BOTH Lord and Saviour in your life.
04 3. How do I make a disciple?
10 The first step to making a disciple is to ensure you are a disciple of Jesus yourself.
15 You’re in either one of two camps today…
42 The more you make Jesus a priority, the more you will make time to pour into other people…
37 But the biblical example is lives of openness and honesty with people who are a part of the local congregation who are following Jesus.
00 We often feel unqualified - that is the voice of the enemy holding you back!
18 God is making his appeal to others through you. People can’t argue with your story…
10 The bible is foolishness to those who are perishing…
50 John 9
44 Keep showing up… keeping being a part of the community… find someone to disciple you… God will radically change your life.
