Nitzan Lebovic is Professor of History and Apter Chair of Holocaust Studies and Ethical Values at Lehigh University. He is the author of The Philosophy of Life and Death and Zionism and Melancholy and the coeditor of two volumes, including The Politics of Nihilism.
We spoke to Nitzan about four German Jewish thinkers who shaped much of what we know today as the modern humanities, the different concepts of time that these thinkers developed, and how our understanding of time has changed with the introduction of the modern idea of the Anthropocene age - the time period when human activities began to significantly impact the Earth.
