Description

US equity markets returned from holiday in a slightly defensive mood, the S&P500 down 0.2%. US bond yields are higher, as is the US dollar. Commodities are weaker, copper notably down 2.7%.
Emerging market currencies remained under pressure, led by the South African rand which suffered from news that the country’s economy entered a recession (second consecutive quarter of negative growth) for the first time since 2009.
