Happy Wonder Wednesday Everyone,

Angela Bowen here, the host of Looking Back On My Wonder Years: A Wonder Years Podcast.

Today, I covered S1E15: Black Teacher, which aired on March 2, 2022.

In this episode when their teacher goes on leave, Dean, Cory and Keisa are excited to be taught by Mr. Brady, the school's first Black teacher; Mr. Brady encourages the students to try out for the Knowledge Bowl team, where Dean faces some challenges.

I really enjoyed this episode.

Seeing Dean's internal struggle between his feelings of being fair to everyone and doing the right thing.

It was nice to see Brad have a shining moment, I mean, yes he did recently have the Brad Mitzvah episode but honestly for an episode with Brad in the title we didn't get a whole lot of him.

I really liked Mr. Brady's way of teaching by exploring other cultures and traditions and the way he took over the Knowledge Bowl and had re-tryouts so Dean, Corey and Keisa could have a chance to participate.

Also how he saw potential in Brad and showed him how to buckle down and study and realize his own potential by applying knowledge for his role as an alternate in the Knowledge Bowl instead of goofing off and being the class clown.

Although being the first black teacher at Jefferson Davis Junior High is not without it's opposition from others who don't believe in his teaching methods.

Join me next month when I cover S1E16: The Sleepover, which aired on March 16, 2022.

In this episode when Dean learns that Corey's dad, Coach Long, is in the doghouse, he struggles to keep this secret from his friend.

Have a great week and I hope you enjoy the episode.
