Straight out of Titahi Bay, Porirua NZ, Josh AKA DJ Crazyeye brings some favourite selection! Growing up in Whakatane and moving to Wellington in the late-90s saw Josh surrounded by the Capital's roots sound. From Trinity Roots, Fat Freddy's Drop and Kora through to the legendary Roots Foundation sessions, all of these sounds have heavily influenced his musical taste ever since.
A stint living in London saw Josh introduced to a whole other level of sound system culture, like Gladdy Wax Sound System playing at local summer festivals and Nottinghill Carnival.
As a designer and documentary maker, Josh recently completed a short documentary on Vital Sounds Hi-Fi. He is currently working on a project with DJ Danny Lemon documenting the devastating loss of his rare record collection in the 2014 storage fire in Wellington.
While early-80s digital reggae and dancehall are particular favourites, Josh also enjoys hearing modern producers who have been influenced by this era and reinterpret the style. This mix reflects that and is a selection of favourites from his collection, from Barrington Levy to Mungo's HiFi.
With a vision of one day owning a sound system, Josh is happy for now documenting the scene and connecting with other passionate music lovers both in New Zealand and around the world.
