Ryan Jones is associate professor of History at the University of Oregon. He holds the Ann Swindells Chair. His research interests include Russian history, Pacific history, and global environmental history.
Jones is the author of Empire of Extinction: Russians and the Strange Beasts of the Sea, 1741–1867 published by Oxford University Press in 2014. His next book Red Leviathan: The Soviet Union and the Secret Destruction of the World’s Whales is forthcoming from the University of Chicago Press.
