Mr. Goldfarb who left Soviet Union in 1975, obtained a doctorate in microbiology in Israel, and taught at Columbia University, has a history of working with many notable people, including George Soros, whom he helped to distribute hundreds of millions of dollars to Russian scientists in the 1990s when the Russian economy was going through a decade-long state of crisis. In our conversation, Alex shared his thoughts on who George Soros really is.
Going back to today's political climate in his homeland, Mr. Goldfarb who hasn't been back since 2000, said he sees Russia as a country that values "tradition, strong state, and denial of rights of individuals" above all else. When asked about the affinity Donald Trump has for Vladimir Putin, and whether he would be surprised if this was NOT about money, Mr. Goldfarb said for those who look at office as a way to enrich themselves, Putin - reportedly the richest man in the world valued at $80 billion - is role model #1.
