A recent book is taking advantage of the New York Public Library's collection of a little known merchant prince of mid-19th century New York, who was at the heart of the creation of an indelible link between Cuba and the Big Apple.

Lisandro Perez is a professor at John Jay College and the author of Sugar, Cigars and Revolution, The Making of Cuban New York. He says few knew the extent of connections between the island, then a colony of Spain and American mercantile interests. Especially that f a merchant named Moses Taylor one of th founders of modern day City Bank.
