Greg Marchildon interviews Dr. John Meehan, SJ, rector of the Gesù Church in Montreal, as well as the interim director of the Newman Centre at McGill University on the diplomatic history of Canada’s relationship with the Far East. Meehan’s books include ‘The Dominion and the Rising Sun’: Canada Encounters Japan, 1929-41 (UBC Press, 2004) and ‘Chasing the Dragon in Shanghai’: Canada’s Early Relations with China, 1858-1952 (UBC Press, 2012).
