Revving up towards wider recognition the past couple of years, South Africa-born / London-based producer Kai van Dongen has been dishing out peak-time bangers one after the other in recent memory, including top-of-the-range floor-destroying weaponry on labels as diverse as Truncate, 1Ø Pills Mate and New York Haunted. All about paced-up rhythmic onslaughts (that’s a euphemism), incisive breaks from hell and jaw-breaking angularity, clearly his blends are not made to be enjoyed with a scone in one hand and a teacup in the other, or else you’ll need some new tableware and shirt pronto. So what’s van Dongen’s style like for real? Fling a brick in the dishwasher and let it froth to death, that's an idea. Or just hop on board his RYC mix and feel the shockwave.
