Hailing from Buffalo, NY, and soon to be based in Miami, Geo Kowalow is a DJ and Producer specializing in all sounds of the underground, performing under the monikers Ellen Degenerate, and Interpretive Sound From Hip-Hop to Techno, they’re ready for any situation with tasteful selections, and technically proficient mixes that ease listeners through a genre-fluid experience. Ellen represents more traditional house and funk sounds, and leans towards a more eclectic approach to selecting records.
Their time as a working DJ has sharpened their skills via regular monthly and weekly gatherings at multiple spaces and venues around Buffalo,New York, including a residency at The Underground Niteclub, a queer oriented club with weekly drag events and dance parties. Their main focus has been running the collective Satellite of Love, organizing events, raves, and community projects big to small. Geo’s new endeavor in the works is Interpretive Sound, a soon to be music label, floating party series, and DJ collective based everywhere and nowhere. Also look out for Degeneration MIA, a DIY rave series being reinvigorated for 2023 around the 305/786.

Q#1: What artists inspire you?
A#1: I would say, right now, my top people are Danny Daze, Ben UFO, and Nikki Nair when it comes to underground titan DJs and/or producers. Also shoutouts to the homies Taimur (T-Bag Records/Blkmarket Music), Ryan Clover (Homage Records), and DJ Ray (Open Space Records) for also keeping me inspired with their music and respective labels.
Q#2: What are your top three favorite events / clubs that you’ve been to?
A#2:
1. Miami’s scene as a whole (RIP ATV Records).
2. Unter events at floating DIY spaces in NYC.
3. Hot Mass in Pittsburgh.
Q#3: What’s a normal concert that you’ve been to that wasn't dance music?
A#3: I really love the electronic jam band named Lotus. They have this camping festival about four hours from Buffalo called Summerdance. I like jam bands and funky rock music - and there’s totally this untapped source between jam music, and funky jackin’ house - those cats love it and they don’t even know they do until they’re on the dance floor losing their minds. My friend and collective partner Sam/U-Lock has been to see them 50 or more times I don’t even know anymore. She’s a maniac for them.
