We are half way through this uninteresting theatrical escapade.
Act I (Diagnosis): Complete Fracture of (5th) Metacarpal in Right Hand. Bone and pinky finger at 90 degree inward offset.
Act II (Procedure): Render patient unconscious, twist bones 90 degrees, realign into a healing position...
Insert 2.5 inch metal rod in parallel with remaining bone fragments, for good measure. (Assure patient of the healing benefits)
*INTERMISSION*
Act III (Follow Up): After 6 weeks time has passed, patient will return for removal of magical healing spike.
Removal requirements: Strong stomach, Sterile Needle Nose Pliers, stern anti-anesthesia viewpoint (Removing hand length metal rod from patient does not qualify as an "operation"), little or no-remorse.
Act IV (Final Examination): After another 6 weeks of wearing a brace, let the patient know everything looks good. Be sure to crack a couple jokes to ease the tension. Make sure patient knows you mentioned that 100% returned movement and mobility was not possible. (Maybe make another half-ass wisecrack, as the patient leaves the office for the final visit.
