REDZONE Ministries Executive Director, Howard Eddings share’s blueprints on a long-awaited space that reflects the needs of the Orange Mound community, in keeping with their commitment to meet social and spiritual needs. The neighborhood was the first African American community; built solely by and for African Americans in the United States. It was built on a former Plantation and got its name from a local fruit called the “mock orange”. By the 1970s, Orange Mound was one of the largest concentration of African Americans in the U.S., besides Harlem. A revitalization project is currently underway to address the ill effects of poverty, like in many urban neighborhoods across the country.
