||CINEMATIC ASYLUM - THE ADVENTURES OF WHITE BOY RICK SCRATCH MIX || SELECTED BY DAN RODGERS AND MIXED BY DJ DESTRUCTION ||
An iconic figure in his hometown of Detroit, White Boy Rick adorned himself with tracksuits and chains juxtaposing his famed baby face. By the age of 17 he had already been arrested and charged with the possession of multiple kilos of cocaine resulting in one of the harshest convictions under the so-called 650 lifer law. “The events surrounding the incarceration of Richard Wershe are a classic example of abuse of power and political corruption.” stated FBI agent Gregg Schwarz. In essence an underage minor was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1988, under dubious circumstances, and still hasn’t been released to date, thus having never spent a day of his adult life outside jail. In the movie ‘White Boy Rick’ by Yann Demange, which saw Dan Rodgers take the role of music supervisor, the audience is taken on a journey through the life and times of a young boy growing up in the streets of Detroit, the tribulations of a city losing rapid industry and the fall into the depths of the cities crack cocaine problem at the peak of the No Crack Crews attack on the criminals enabling it.
In this special episode of Cinematic Asylum, Dan Rodgers shares a scratch mix soundtracking the cult movie, creating an aural landscape fitting with the dark dramas of the time. This is without doubt a show not to be missed. Tune in from 10pm tonight, only on OpenLab
