This week the Rotations team connects with the highly respected and innovative journalist, Rick Berke. Mr. Berke covered politics at the New York Times for decades as the Chief Political & Whitehouse Correspondent, Washington and National Editor and Assistant Managing Editor before becoming the Executive Editor of Politico and most recently, the Executive Director of The Boston Globe’s STAT – a national publication focused on telling compelling stories about health, medicine and scientific discovery.
Rick talks with the Rotations team about the challenges of medical journalism in the age of intense politicization and financial interests and his thoughts on founding a viable journalistic start-up amidst the issues facing the practice of journalism. He also talks about the wealth of stories in our medical and scientific communities and the value of bringing these stories to the broader American public.
