I think many of us are familiar with this parable as being a parable of social justice. And while that is certainly true, the Church Fathers interpreted this passage differently. They saw the story of the Good Samaritan not simply as a call to be kind to our neighbor, but a call to be Christ to our neighbor. Because the Samaritan is Jesus.
