The Johannesburg Holocaust & Genocide Centre’s Education Officer, Mdu Ntuli in conversation with Daniel Schuster (CEO of the Austrian Service Abroad) as well as Matthias Igler, a young Austrian who recently arrived in South Africa to work as an intern or Gedenkdiener at the JHGC. They discuss the importance of the Austrian Service Abroad and the partnership with the Johannesburg Holocaust & Genocide Centre.
The Austrian Service Abroad is a non-profit organisation founded by Dr. Andreas Maislinger, an Austrian historian and political scientist in 1998. It sends young Austrians to work in partner institutions worldwide that work within the field of Holocaust commemoration, they also work to support vulnerable social groups, sustainability initiatives, and projects of peace that fall within the framework of the Austrian Peace Service. This service is taken in place of military service and is for a period of 10 months.
