Addiction is primarily an intimacy or bonding disorder. As a result of failed or distressed attachments, the person bonds with a substance or compulsive behavior, and the destructive behaviors follow.
In this lecture, Rhys concludes his explorations of the question, “What is addiction?” with a brief review of attachment theory, and how seeing addiction as a relationship may offer the most solutions to suffering people.
This episodes continues a series of lectures delivered at a Masters in Counseling Program at a Protestant University in an Overview of Addictions class.
