Brahms serene and simply beautiful anthem "Geistliches Leid", which calls on us to not worry about today, but be calm, steadfast and to trust in God, opens this week's reflection.
Our reading is a short extract from St John's passion narrative and recounts two of Jesus's final utterances from the Cross: one to his mother, Mary, "Woman, behold, your son"; and the other to his disciple, "Behold, your mother!"
In church, we celebrate Mothering Sunday, remembering the gift of life that our mothers gave us all and the nurturing gifts of faith our mother church provides.
We close with a hymn on the same theme, hymn "For Mary, mother of our Lord."
