Jesus said that Christians are the salt of the earth and the light of the world. The thing that we tend to miss is Jesus isn't telling us to become something. He is making a declaration that we are something. In Christ we are the instrument that God is using to preserve the world around us. In Christ we are the light that shines in the darkness.
