The worst thing to happen in all of the universe was for the innocent, spotless, Son of God to be betrayed by one of his best friends, arrested by his own countrymen, accused of blasphemy by his fellow Jews, beaten and punished for no reason, and hung on the cross enduring the wrath of
God the father in order to pay for the penalty for sins that we not his own.
The greatest crime committed in all of history was the result of free creatures doing what they wanted to do. Free creatures acting out of their own will, choosing, by their own desires and nature to do what they wanted.
And all of it was sovereignly ordained by God as part of his plan and will, in order to work out the greatest possible good which was the redemption of his people.
