The truth is Jesus didn't want his church to cower in fear because of the evil in the world, but rather he wanted his people to rise up and take the fight to the enemy. The is church is supposed to go the darkest places in the world around share the hope and love of Christ with out fear and with our compromise. That is the mission of the church.
