What a staggering truth it is that God showed his love for us that while we were covered up in our sin, Christ died for us. Even more staggering is the truth that Christ reconciled us back to God as family, not while we were in the process of getting our lives together, but while we were God's enemies. It was when we were at war with God, hating him, that Christ gave up his life for us. And what we need to understand is this, if Christ can do that, if he can bring sinners into the kingdom of heaven by his blood, how much more can he keep them there by his life? Another gift of the gospel is the assurance we have as believers. Salvation has never been about what we can do for God. It is about what Christ has done for us, and us trusting in that by faith.
