The Christmas spirit was a special and sacred time for children in America, and Santa Claus was the mythical figure that represented that special time, but in the 1980's slasher films were becoming viewed as a major market and Tri-Star pictures wanted in on the trend, and their advertising plan for a Santa Slasher would be meet with rage and protest, causing an outrage from parents and critics that nobody saw coming.
